What We Do

Jemmott Hotel Management Inc. is a privately owned company. Its principal businesses are the marketing and management of tourism properties in the Caribbean and facilitate acquisitions and development of tourism businesses. The directors and officers have over one hundred years of combined hotel management, marketing, operational and real estate development expertise and financial and operational management with a proven track record.

The main focus of Jemmott Hotel Management Inc. is on executing value added strategies while managing properties on behalf of the property owners to remain profitable. In this regard, the company has a strong focus on attracting highly qualified and trained personnel at every level.

About Us

The Business of Family

The Jemmott’s family like many Barbadian {bajans} families are descendants of a mosaic of ancestors. We are of African and Scottish/Irish descent. We have carried within us and continue to express a strong family commitment and bond, a spirit of entrepreneurship, service to community, artistry, music and humble yet noble ideals.

Oswald and Mazie Jemmott made a lifelong commitment to each other through the many challenges of their 40 year marriage. Their children and grandchildren were raised in a home full of love, verbal jousting, healthy competition and robust laughter.

At the root, as one observer noted, they were all for one and one for all. They are us and we are them. We grow, build, support each other and are of service to perpetuate the uplift of all. Each doing our part wherever we find ourselves.

Ma Jemmott, as she was affectionately known in the community was a steward of the principles of faith, service to family and community. She and several before her were community organizers, seeking to discern and support meeting spiritual and material needs in the community. She was a powerful and strong woman with a keen eye for character and a quick wit. Ma Jemmott’s leadership model was to delegate tasks to those suited to carry them out effectively.

Pa Jemmott was a skilled artisan, master carpenter, cooper, musician who served in over 30 Anglican choirs island wide. He also was, an entrepreneur, the local Cave Hill community butcher. He was full of love and laughter. The latter, a trait which seemed to have been passed on from his father. He was often the supervisor on his work sites and this gift for management has been passed on through the generations.

Although it may seem as if Alvin Jemmott was the mastermind behind the development of the family legacy in hospitality, he admits that these ideas long pre-dates him, it just happen to materialise on his watch. Jemmott Hotel Management Inc. is a privately owned company incorporated under the Company’s Act Chapter 308 of the Laws of Barbados

Our Story

Our Story

Veteran tourism industry executive Alvin Jemmott has started fresh.

Having worked for about 40 years in the industry, including managing various hotels, the former Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. chairman has launched his own hotel management company.

He sees major scope for growth, especially among smaller hotels, and wants tourism in Barbados to focus more on wealth creation.

What Our Clients Say

I first had the pleasure of meeting Alvin Jemmott when I took on the role of Director of Sales & Marketing for Marriott’s Sam Lord’s Resort Barbados in 1993.  I was based in the US while Alvin looked after sales, catering, event and banquet operations at the resort.

It took only a short time to learn what a dynamic, detail oriented and strong leader Alvin is.  During my first few weeks on the job, Alvin was in charge of a 3 week resort buyout program with a UK insurance company.  He and his team worked back to back to back over that three week period of time and handled all details perfectly.  Every event and group that the resort hosted got the same great service every time.

As I got to know Alvin, he became a vital and trusted right hand at the resort.  I was only able to travel there about every 6 to 8 weeks so I relied on Alvin to keep me informed of what was going on and needed his attention between my visits.  He also educated me to Barbados, the industry partners on the island, Barbados Tourism Authority and the Government of Barbados.  That helped me understand the partnerships and resources that supported Sam Lords and how to work with them.on the island.

But beyond all that, Alvin became a friend.  He helped me learn Bajan culture and the Bajan people.  He helped me, an American who had limited international experience, learn how to work with people from different cultures and perspectives.  He taught me about the history of the island and it’s people.  He also taught me how to slow down and listen.  One of Alvin’s gifts is his ability to listen to people and seek their participation in the job that has to be done.  He shows respect for every individual and makes them each a part of the team.

In the intervening years, I have seen how he has become a true leader in the Barbados tourism industry.  His even temper, energy, intelligence and ability to work with people of differing views is impressive.  I am proud to call him a friend and very happy about his new business venture.
